Anastasia Krupnik
by Lois Lowry

Number of Pages: 113
Published 1984
Published by: Dell Books for Young Readers
Genre: realistic fiction

The story takes place at Anastasia’s house and her school. Her teacher’s name is Mrs. Westvessle. The main characters are Anastasia Krupnik and her parents. Anastasia is ten with hair the colour of Habbard squash and fourteen freckles on her nose. Her dad is a poet. He is an English teacher. Her mom is an artist and a hard working mother.

Anastasia has a green notebook in which she keeps track of all the things that happened in the year she is ten. One of the most important parts in her notebook is the part where she writes "what she hates and what she loves." Anastasia’s mom is going to have a baby. But Anastasia hates babies! She likes this sixth grade boy and he doesn’t even know she’s alive. Her 92-year-old grandma doesn’t remember Anastasia’s name. It is very confusing time in Anastasia’s life.

The book taught me that life doesn’t always go as planned.
