In the story The Miserable Mill, by Lemony Snicket, bad luck is what follows the Baudelaire orphans. The Baudelaire orphans are three kids whose mom and dad died in a horrible fire in the Baudelaire’s mansion. The first Baudelaire is Violet Baudelaire, who is 14 years old and the best inventor in the family. Klauss and Sunny know when she is thinking hard about something because she ties her hair up in a ribbon. The second Baudelaire is Klauss Baudelaire. He is 12 years old and is the greatest reader. He also a lot of hard words many boys and girls his age can’t pronounce. And last but not least there is Sunny Baudelaire, who is the toddler. She is one or two years old and loves to bite all the things that are hard. As always, she is the youngest of all the Baudelaires’. And she is considered the baby.

After the children is Mr.Poe. Mr.Poe is a banker who lives with his wife and two boys. These two boys are the meanest boys you have ever seen. Mr.Poe is a portly man chubby, always coughing, and has a handkerchief handy. Finally, the meanest character you have ever seen or heard of is Count Olaf. Count Olaf wants the Baudelaire fortune. That’s why he is always in disguise, and always trying to steal the Baudelaire fortune. He is mean, has a tattoo of an eye on his left ankle.

The setting takes place in Lucky Smells Lumbermill. Lucky Smells is the worst place you have ever seen or heard of. All the signs were made of chewed-up gum. Sounds disgusting, right? Make sure you never, ever touch any signs on the street, unless your friend touches it first. In that town the Baudelaires noticed that a building was in the shape of an eye. They couldn’t believe it because Count Olaf’s house was full of eye paintings. Inside of the lumber mill was so small, everybody had to sleep in the same room. That place didn’t have windows. But somebody already created some windows with a ball point pen.

In the beginning of the story, as the Baudelaire orphans try to escape from Count Olaf for the fourth time, they think they finally made it. They think they escaped from Count Olaf, but really didn’t. Count Olaf comes again, because the Baudelaire fortune. Count Olaf gets the evil idea of hypnotizing Klauss. That happens when Klauss goes to the eye doctor, because he breaks his glasses while working in the lumber mill. Something they don’t know is that Count Olaf is very, very close.

In the middle, Violet sees that something weird is happening. Violet and Klauss figure out that Klauss has been hypnotized. Violet noticed that because Klauss had been walking with out his shoes. Once again Klauss break his glasses and Violet wants to go with him, however she can’t because the eye doctor doesn’t let her. Violet notices something weird with the receptionist Shirley. If only they knew where Count Olaf was, and how he was disguised this time.

At the end, Klauss and Violet figure out the word that could unhypnotize Klauss. Klauss almost kills somebody while working because he was hypnotized. Violet called out the unhipnotizing, word but one of Count Olaf’s accomplices comes and says the hypnotizing word again. The Baudelaires finally meet their guardian, but they can’t see his face. The guardian calls the police so they can take Count Olaf and his assosiates, but once again Count Olaf figures his way out.

I thought the story The Miserable Mill was a really good suspense story. It made me giggle when Klauss was walking without shoes. Also it was funny when he said what he had read about in the hypnotizing book he read. I thought it was an interesting book. I really liked it because my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Taylor, read out loud to us every day. She always read us our favorite books A Series of Unfortunate Events. All books numbers one to eight. She always led us into suspense after every chapter.

Although Lemony Snicket made the book sound interesting, and real in some parts.  Some other parts were boring and sounded fake, like the chewed – up gum signs part. They really didn’t sound real. Because you know people wouldn’t be so dumb to do that.

In conclusion, I would really recommend this story because it’s funny, interesting, and builds up suspense. Klaus getting hypnotized by Count Olaf, and finding the correct word for unhipnotizing Klaus was great! You had better read this book, and not another one you see.
